What does the Energy Member Board do?

The key role of the Energy Member Board is to ensure that the Service is appropriately funded, to approve each Annual Budget and Annual Business Plan, determines the scale of case fees and subscriptions to be be paid by Members of the Service and to ensure that the Service adheres to the purpose and scope of the Energy Ombudsman as described in the terms of reference.


There are nine members of the Member Board, the Chairman and six of whom are nominated by the member companies, and two appointed from the Independent Council Members. The industry members are:

• Philip Arend - Centrica
• Nigel Baxter - EDF Energy
• Julie Jaglowski - npower
• Peter Williams - Powergen
• Grant Tierney - Scottish Power
• Jacqui Maxwell - Scottish and Southern Energy

The independent members are:

• Margaret Doyle
• Jean Couper

The constitution of the Energy Member Board will change after 1 April 2008.  Further information about this change will follow shortly.
